When You Are Choosing A Retreat Place Matters

When you choose to step away from ordinary life, where you go matters. Especially when you are investing in a retreat.

Coaching can happen almost anywhere, even on Zoom. But when you remove yourself from your routines and responsibilities and give yourself several days devoted to your own life, the setting becomes part of the experience. We wanted to choose a place with beauty, depth, history, and enough distance from everyday life to help you see things differently.

That is why we chose Crete in October.

As the Mediterranean summer eases, the days are often still warm and the evenings cooler. The sea has held the warmth of summer, offering the possibility of one last stretch of sun and water before fall and winter are fully underway in North America and Europe.

October also brings the beginning of the olive harvest. Crete is an island shaped by agriculture and agricultural traditions. Olives and pomegranates are ripening. Fields and groves carry the visible evidence of planting, tending, pruning, waiting, and eventually harvesting what is ready.

Across the island, mountains meet the water, and olive groves, farms, villages, and towns carry centuries of history alongside everyday life.

Crete was also home to the Minoan civilization. Women appear prominently in its frescoes and ceremonial art as priestesses, athletes, goddesses, and other figures in public and sacred life.

And geographically and culturally, Crete has long occupied a place between worlds, with Europe to the north and North Africa to the south.

As Wayfinders, we were struck by the parallels between this place and the women Threshold is designed for: women standing at a point of change, already carrying the experience of what has come before, and beginning to consider what is ready to take a larger place in the life ahead.

There is something fitting about gathering here, in a landscape shaped by seasons, cultivation, history, and change.

That is why we chose Crete.
